Quick summary: Group Chats gained instant group images, Generate-page group photos with up to three companions, and calls where companions take turns responding. Group voice remained marked beta, and these media features are separate from per-member memory.
Group images added two creation routes
v5.5.0 added instant images inside a Group Chat and group-image creation on the Generate page. The release described support for up to three companions. Current Group Chat documentation says the instant-image system can select which members appear based on context, while the Generate page gives more deliberate companion selection.

Group calls introduced turn-taking between companions
The same release added voice calls with all members of a group. The current Wiki says companions take turns responding. An earlier v5.2.1 change also made group Text-to-Speech use each companion’s own voice, which is related but not the same as a live group call.
Group voice calls are still described as beta in current documentation. Users should expect occasional timing, handoff, or connection issues and should not rely on the feature for critical communication.
Media and memory are separate layers
A group image decides who appears in an output. A group call decides who responds in audio. Per-member memory decides what each companion can remember. One layer working does not prove the others are configured correctly.
the current Group Chat setup for membership, images, calls, and memory shows how the layers fit together. the per-member memory update analysis covers the later memory release.
Cost and tier requirements need confirmation
Current documentation lists Group Chats as an Ultimate feature and says group images charge by companion according to the selected Advanced options. Audio and video actions use Moments under their own pricing rules. Always review the confirmation screen because release-era prices may not match the current account.
Choose troubleshooting by the failed layer
- Use the checks for a Group Chat that cannot be created or opened when the room itself fails.
- Use the microphone, permission, transcript, and connection checks for an audio call when the call fails.
- Use the identity and anatomy checks for a malformed group image when the media completes but looks wrong.
What the update added to product value
The release made Group Chats more than a text feature, especially for roleplay and creator workflows. The value is limited by Ultimate access, Moments, beta call behavior, and the complexity of preserving several identities. the Secrets AI review’s assessment of Group Chat and media value covers that tradeoff. SecretOpedia’s Secrets AI group-media updates tracks later changes.
Before using a long scene, test the layers independently: confirm the group opens, request one simple image, start a short call, and ask one companion about a known saved fact. This editorial comparison reduces ambiguity because a failure in one layer does not automatically identify the others as broken.
The later per-member memory release added configuration that the original media rollout did not provide. the Custom Character image expansion explains when original characters became eligible for Advanced and group-image workflows.
