The release removed a main-companion limitation
v5.5.0 launched Advanced and group images for main companions. Four days later, v5.6.0 extended the capability to Custom Characters. That changed Custom Characters from chat-only creations with standard media behavior into companions that could participate in identity-sensitive solo and group generations.

The original identity setup used four generated choices
The release instructed users to choose a suitable photo during a settings walkthrough, generate four options, and select a full-body, front-facing result. It listed free enablement for public Custom Characters and 100 Moments for private characters.
The current Custom Characters page still documents this flow, while recent search snippets also indicate newer reference-photo support. When the live interface differs, follow the current Custom Character creation and image-identity instructions rather than forcing the historical sequence.
Regeneration became a separate paid action
v5.10.0 added regeneration of the selected Advanced identity image for 100 Moments. This is different from the 500-Moment cost for an additional Custom Character and different from the cost of generating an Advanced image. Users should verify which action is shown before confirming.
Public, shared, and private status still matter
Image capability does not change visibility. A private character remains private unless sharing or public status is enabled. The official rules also prohibit characters based on real people. Publishing a character or media should follow the profile and item-visibility checks for public content.
Group support introduces more identity pressure
A group image has to preserve several companions at once, so the chance of mixed details or identity drift can increase. Start with compatible characters, a simple composition, and a clear description. When the result changes faces or anatomy, follow the checks for a Custom Character whose appearance does not match its setup.
What this changed for creators

The public documentation remains internally awkward in places: it calls the first character free in one section while a troubleshooting answer says creation needs 500 Moments. The safest approach is to verify the confirmation screen and distinguish first-character creation, additional-character creation, Advanced identity setup, and identity regeneration as separate actions.
This article therefore records the release history without turning every historical amount into a universal current price. The current character settings and confirmation screen should decide what the account can do today.
The real-person restriction remains unchanged by the media expansion. Official documentation says likenesses of celebrities, public figures, influencers, and private individuals are prohibited and may be removed without a refund, so reference choices must stay fictional and original.
