Secrets AI Memory Not Working: Recall and Scope Checks

Quick answer: Use this guide when the memory exists in the panel but is not recalled correctly. Confirm the same companion, the intended private or shared scope, and Smart Mode. If no entry was created in the first place, use the separate memory-saving guide.

Confirm the memory and its scope

Open the memory panel and read the actual entry. Then confirm that the current chat uses the same companion and the intended memory scope. Private memories stay with one chat; a Memory Group can be shared only by chats assigned to that group.

If the entry is absent, follow the memory-not-saving workflow. If it existed and later vanished, use the missing-memory guide.

Improve recall without creating more conflicts

  1. Enable Smart Mode for the affected chat when available.
  2. Ask one direct question that requires the saved fact.
  3. Check for a second entry that contradicts the first.
  4. Correct or remove the inaccurate entry in the memory panel.
  5. Compare a new chat assigned to the same Memory Group.

Do not keep adding near-duplicate memories. Multiple versions of the same fact can make recall less predictable.

Smart Mode is described as searching prior conversation and memory before a response. It can improve access to relevant information, but it does not mean every saved fact must appear in every reply. Ask a question where the fact is genuinely relevant, then compare the response with Smart Mode off only as a controlled diagnostic.

Use the comparison to locate the boundary

Recent conversation context can outweigh an older saved fact when the current scene strongly implies something else. If another chat in the same group recalls the fact, the original conversation context may be overriding it. If no chat in the group recalls it, inspect the entry and group assignment. If a private chat recalls a different fact, the scopes are working separately rather than necessarily malfunctioning.

The SecretOpedia’s Secrets AI memory guides maps memory, personas, and chats. Our the Secrets AI review of memory and tier differences explains the role of memory access and tier differences when the problem affects your broader product decision.

Avoid deleting the chat while diagnosing recall

Current documentation says deleting a private chat also removes its private memories, while memories in a shared group may remain available to other assigned chats. Time Travel can also remove memories created from deleted messages.

Contact support with the memory text, companion, scope, Smart Mode state, affected chat, and a short example. Do not send unrelated sensitive memories.
